Update:

Argentina secured their place in a second straight World Cup final with a stunning comeback victory over old rivals England on Wednesday. Now, Lionel Messi is one win away from a historic back-to-back triumph on soccer’s greatest stage.

The holders take on Spain on Sunday, July 19 and they will do so in the familiar combination of white and sky blue stripes. FIFA has confirmed that Argentina will wear their home kit against Spain, consisting of the classic ‘Albiceleste’ jersey, with white shorts and white socks.

Argentina wore the famous white and blue for each of their three previous World Cup final triumphs, in 1978, 1986 and 2022. Argentina have worn the blue away jersey in two World Cup finals and lost them both; in 1990 and 2014.

With Argentina in sky blue and white, Spain are free to wear their home kit of red and navy blue. Aside from the difference in color, Spain’s home jersey is classed as dark while Argentina’s is considered light by FIFA.

Soccer’s governing body is keen to ensure that the kit combinations of greatest contrast are selected to make differentiation easy for players, officials and supporters. At a pre-tournament friendly between the United States and Belgium players complained that it was difficult to tell the two teams apart, with both sides wearing light-colored kits. That was rectified when they met again in the World Cup round-of-16 and the United States switched to the dark navy away kit.
