Sad news surrounds the football community, just hours before El Clásico. FC Barcelona announced the passing of the father of Hansi Flick just hours before the game.

FC Barcelona and the entire blaugrana family wish to send all our love to Hansi Flick after the passing of his father. We share in your sorrow and our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time” read the official statement from the club.

However, Barça’s communications department has confirmed that Hansi Flick will be on the bench this Sunday for the match against Real Madrid. His players will no doubt be determined to dedicate a victory to him in the hope of easing the pain of his father’s passing. The squad is also expected to wear black armbands, while a minute’s silence will be observed in honour of Flick’s father. The Barça coach will remain with his players at the Torre Melina training complex to deliver the tactical briefing before boarding the team bus to Camp Nou.
