Bayern Munich welcome PSG to Munich on Wednesday night with a 1-goal lead from the first leg against the French side.

Daniele Orsato will referee Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie between the sides. The Italian official took charge of the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon, with Bayern beating PSG thanks to a Kingsley Coman goal.

Orsato also officiated the 2021 Champions League quarter-final second leg between Bayern and PSG. The German side won the game at the Parc des Princes 1-0 but the Ligue 1 outfit advanced to the last four thanks to a 3-2 win at the Allianz Arena.

Who is Daniele Orsato?

Orsato, 47, is one of the most experienced referees in European football. His experience should let the game flow as both sides look to advance to the quarter-finals of this year’s Champions League. He was born in Vicenza and has been a UEFA referee since 2010. Before becoming a referee, he was a coach.

Orsato is coming off the back of three World Cup matches. He took charge of the first semi-final between Argentina and Croatia. He was also appointed for the opening match between Qatar and Ecuador and Argentina’s second match of the group stage against Mexico, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the Albiceleste.

This season he has refereed four Champions League group-stage matches and has also taken part in the Nations League, where he refereed Spain’s match against Portugal last September.
