Big problem for Ancelotti and Liverpool: Alisson to miss the rest of the season
The Brazilian goalkeeper will be out until the end of the season, according to Slot, and could be ready just in time for the start of the World Cup with the Seleção.

Liverpool’s season has felt like a full‑blown odyssey of injuries. Beyond the tactical adjustments Arne Slot has tried to implement from the sidelines, physical setbacks have been a constant theme, disrupting rhythm and continuity across the squad. Alexander Isak’s stop‑and‑start availability is one of the clearest examples — and a symbol of why Liverpool has fallen out of the Premier League title race.

A goalkeeping crisis at the worst possible time
One of the biggest concerns now centers on the goalkeeper position. Alisson has dealt with multiple muscle issues throughout the season, forcing Giorgi Mamardashvili into a larger role — though the Georgian keeper hasn’t fully convinced.
But things took a turn for the worse: Alisson suffered another injury heading into the final stretch of the campaign, putting his availability for Liverpool’s most important matches in serious doubt.
Slot confirmed that the Brazilian star will be sidelined indefinitely, ruling him out of the Champions League quarterfinals against PSG.
“He won’t be part of the matches against Paris Saint‑Germain. He’ll be out a bit longer. Toward the end of the season, we hope he’ll be fit again,” Slot said.

A race against time — for Liverpool and Brazil
Getting Alisson back for the final games would be a massive boost for Liverpool, who are fighting to secure a Champions League spot for next season. It would also be welcome news for Brazil. But the timing is tricky: even if he returns late in the season, he’ll need time to regain form before the World Cup.
Alisson has been Brazil’s undisputed starter whenever healthy, but he hasn’t played for the national team since the end of the South American qualifiers against Bolivia in September 2025. He even wore the captain’s armband that night — but since then, injuries have kept him from spending meaningful time under Carlo Ancelotti, who took over the Brazilian bench.

Brazil’s goalkeeping battle heats up
Muscle issues have limited Alisson to just five appearances in Brazil’s last 16 matches — qualifiers and friendlies combined. He hasn’t been called up for the last three international windows.
Meanwhile, Ederson and Neto — the two keepers Ancelotti has leaned on most — are battling to claim the No. 1 spot if Alisson can’t return in top shape before the World Cup.
