Brazil insist: “Carlo Ancelotti is still plan A”
The president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues affirms that the Italian coach continues to be the favorite to be the new Brazilian coach and is confident that he will be able to sit down and talk with him in June.
The Brazilian FA (CBF) are still hopeful that Carlo Ancelotti will be the next coach of the five-time world champions despite recent declarations from the Italian coach and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez suggesting that the 63-year-old would remain on the Santiago Bernabeu bench next season.
This Sunday, CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues insisted once again. “Brazil has competent coaches who we appreciate very much, but we have a plan A and that is Ancelotti. We have a feeling this is going to work. He knows most of the players who play for the national team and admires Brazilian soccer a lot,” Rodrigues said in an interview with the Brazilian media outlet Band.
“We hope to have a clearer position on their part after the FIFA date in June, so that we can speak with greater conviction”, added Rodrigues, who admitted that the CBF also manages a shortlist of Brazilian candidates for the post. They are Dorival Junior (who oversaw the last Libertadores win with Flamengo), Abel Ferreira (current coach of Palmeiras, winner of the 2022 Brasileirao) and Fernando Diniz, who recently won the Carioca Championship with Fluminense.
Vinicius, Rodrygo and Militao called up
With no official matches until September, when the qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup will begin, interim coach Ramon Menezes announced his squad for the friendly matches against Guinea (17 June in Barcelona) and Senegal ( 20 June in Lisbon). The three Brazilians from Real Madrid (Vinicius, Rodrygo and Militao) have been called up for both games.
