Sergio Busquets, the esteemed Spanish midfielder, will be joining Inter Miami. After an illustrious career at Barcelona, he will now embark on a North American adventure alongside Lionel Messi. This announcement was made by the MLS franchise, chaired by Spanish figure Jorge Mas, through their social media channels, bringing together the two Barça legends.

Buquets Inter Miami bound

At 34 years old, Busquets has signed a contract until 2025. In fact, reports from the United States indicated that one of the factors influencing Messi’s decision was the prospect of reuniting with Busquets, with whom he had achieved tremendous success in LaLiga. ‘Busi’ had bid farewell to Camp Nou at the end of the season, clinching the league trophy — the 31st title he has won at the club.

Having played over 700 matches for the Catalans throughout his career, he has been an integral part of the club’s history.

The official announcement by Inter Miami was accompanied by a series of statements from notable figures in the game, emphasizing the exceptional qualities of their new signing.

“You watch the game, you don’t see him, you watch him, you see the whole game,” said former coach Vicente del Bosque, highlighting Busquets’ subtle yet impactful presence. Luka Modric describes him as one of the best midfielders he has ever faced, while current Barça coach Xavi Hernández believes Busquets is the best of the last 20 years and will go down as one of the greatest in history.

Pep Guardiola acknowledges Busquets’ exceptional intelligence and understanding of the game, and Juan Román Riquelme simply states, “There is only one.”

Busquets, a vital figure for Barça, now enters a competition that may not be as demanding but presents him with the challenge of playing outside of Barcelona for the first time. It also offers him a new personal experience alongside his family in the United States.
