Cameroon will almost need a miracle to progress to the Round of 16, needing to beat Brazil at Lusail Stadium and hope for either a draw, or for Serbia to beat Switzerland by at least a one-goal difference in the other game in Group G, while La Canarinha only need a single point to finish top of the group.

Cameroon vs Brazil preview

Cameroon didn’t start the competition the way they would have wanted, losing 1-0 to favorites Switzerland.

The Indomitable Lions, however, didn’t surrender in their second game and came back from a 3-1 deficit vs. Serbia to tie the encounter up at 3-3.

Rigobert Song’s side will try to capitalize on this edition of the World Cup’s unpredictability by defeating the Brazilians and may be hoping Tite won’t line up the best possible opposition, as it seems most of the job has already been done by La Canarinha.

Meanwhile, Brazil might be already thinking about their Round of 16 opponents after winning their first two games at the World Cup for the first time since 2010.

The five-time World Cup champs have shown their solidity on both sides of the score sheet, notching up three goals while being yet to concede.

In their opening game, they defeated Serbia (2-0) with a couple of Richarlison goals, one of them among the best that we have seen in recent World Cup tournaments.

In game two, and despite Neymar’s absence due to injury, La Seleçao came out on top against a solid Switzerland thanks to a Casemiro goal in the second half (1-0).

Cameroon and Brazil last met in competitive action in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup, with the South American side emerging victorious 4-1.

Cameroon

Cameroon won’t have Andre Onana in between the sticks after having been sent home for disciplinary reasons.

Devis Epassy will likely be tapped to replace Onana, while Vincent Aboubakar may feature from the start having scored from the bench against Serbia.

Brazil

In contrast, Brazil go into the match with more injury issues than their rivals. Alex Sandro won’t play against the African squad due to a hip injury.

Brazilian star Neymar Jr. will also miss out due to an ankle injury suffered during the team’s opening game against the Serbs, while Danilo will also be unavailable for Tite.

Cameroon vs. Brazil prediction

Cameroon will fight tooth and nail right up until the bitter end to keep things tight against heavy favorites Brazil. However, even if La Canarinha chooses to rest a few players, as seems likely, they should still be too strong for Song’s men.

Prediction: Cameroon 0-2 Brazil

Who is refereeing Cameroon vs Brazil?

American referee Ismail Elfath will take charge of the fixture. Alongside him are assistants Kyle Atkins and Corey Parker, while the fourth official is Ning Ma.
