GOOOOOAAALLLLLL!!!!
David with his hat trick!!! It's the second hat trick of the tournament and David does it on his home soil!!!
6-0 Canada over Qatar!!!
Attack after attack and corner after corner coming for Canada. Qatar can't wait to see this 90 ended, but there is still quite a bit of time left with the extra time that will be added after the injury to Kone.
GOOOOAAALLLLL!!!
Schaffelberg took it off the volley and it looked to being sailing wide of target but Mannai tried to clear but hit it straight into the back of the net!
Canada with a massive 5-0 lead with a quarter of an hour to go.
Shaffelburg and Olwaseyi in for De Fourgerolles and Ahmed for Canada.
Shortly after the second red card of the match, It was Nathan Saliba who curled the free kick home and went right to the bench and raised Kone's jersey to the stands in honor of their injured teammate.
Heartbreaking scenes from Vancouver after Kone was carted off after a challenge from Madibo. The Qatari midfielder couldn't believe what he had done in the aftermath and was eventually sent off, but the guilty sensation will stick with him long after the red card wares off.
GOOOAAAALLLLLLL!!!
Saliba, who came on for Kone, rips the free kick home on the right side of the wall and runs right over to the sideline and holds up the shirt of Kone!!!
A spectacular performance for Canada, even with the injury blow to Kone!
Fathy carded after a late challenge on Ahmed and it's getting a bit ugly here in the second half. You don't want anyone else getting injured in a match that is already over.
It's a leg injury, But Kone sitting up on the stretcher. He just gave a thumbs up and a salute to the supporters. He has his leg wrapped in an air cast and that looks serious but his World Cup campaign might have just ended in the second game of the tournament.
Madibo has been shown a red card, but that is really the least of the worries now for Canada. The stretcher is on the pitch and you could see from both teams reactions how serious the situation was.
Kone took a heavy challenge from a Qatar player and it was Madibo who was to blame. The Canada players went right after him and Madibo is sitting there with his hands on his head in disbelief of guilt.
It's all Canada out of the gate as you would expect and they look like they are enjoying themselves at the moment.
Qatar are a man down but have to kind of throw caution to the wind. That could open up things for Canada on the counter.
WE ARE BACK IN VANCOUVER FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION.
Larin was looking for his second but it was stopped by the keeper but Davis was there waiting for the rebound for his second goal of the day.
It was far from easy for David off the deflection but he judged it perfectly and slotted it home to double the Canadian advantage.
Larin scored the only goal in the first match and he starts the afternoon off with a goal off the rebound against Qatar.
WE ARE HEADING TO THE HALFTIME BREAK FROM VANCOUVER!!!
Up by three goals, Canada are having a bit of fun and showing a bit of flash. They can afford to do so with their lead and their man advantage.
GOOOOOAAALLLLL!!!!
Ball sent into Larin on the back post and he did well to put that effort on goal. The save was made but David was hungrier to get to that rebound and touch it home.
CAN lead 3-0 heading into the half.
Ball over the top for Buchanan who nodded it back for Larin but the No. 9 couldn't get his head on it right in front of the mouth of goal
SIX MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME IN THIS FIRST HALF.
Cornelious tried to turn on a ball that was bouncing in the box and had his leg impeded. He went down but no penalty was called and no VAR was needed.
Kone had a chance at the top of the area and took a shot that was deflected but the flag went up for offside on Canada.
David takes a turn in the box off a ball from the midfield and he took it quickly but it was deflected out for a corner kick.
Laryea across the face of goal for Buchanan and he slipped before he could cushion it into the back of the net. That was a clear goal if not for the stumble.
It was not an easy finish from David off the deflection but he calculated it perfectly and blasted it past the keeper to double the Canada lead.
Canada's Ahmed tries the free kick from a difficult angle and he skied it over the crossbar.
It's a red card for Ahmed and he has been sent his marching orders!!! On the other side, the foul was called outside the box so Canada have a free kick from right outside the area.
PENALTY!!!!!
Kone played it over the top for Buchanan and he was tripped up in the area by Ahmed, and the ref pointed directly at the spot. No debate there. Clear penalty and Canada have a chance to add to their lead.
GOOOOAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!
Buchanan tried it from distance and it popped up for David who turned and hit in on the volley for the second goal of the game!!!
CAN lead 2-0 after the hydration break!!!
THE HYDRATION BREAK HAS COME AND GONE HERE IN A VERY COMFORTABLE VANCOUVER STADIUM.
It was a fantastic volley from David and Larin was in the right place at the right time. Great goal scoring instincts the Canada No. 9.
Ball sent into the box again by Canada and this time it's Khouki who caught a stray arm and will have to come off for at least a minute.
It was Johnston who sent the ball from the end line to the back post, and David picked it out of the air but sent it right down main street. The keeper made the save but spilled it and Larin was there for the rebound and his second goal of the World Cup.
GOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!
It's Larin again!!! This time on the rebound off the one time strike from the corner kick and he was just in the right place at the right time.
CAN lead 1-0/.
Low driven ball to the front post and it's just about dealt with by Qatar.
Cheap corner given up by Qatar and Canada continue to press.
Ahmed puts in a cross and that was a great ball but sent away by Qatar's stingy defense.
Free kick after Buchanan was pulled down by the near touchline and they have a chance to swing one in from the right side of the pitch.
Qatar are tucked back so tight when Canada are in possession and it's going to be so hard for the home side to find any space in the attacking third.
Corner kick came to nothing but Qatar are still looking comfortable in possession.
Free kick to come from the left side. A little too far to take on the shot and the captain Khouki slams it off the wall and out for a corner kick.
Great pace from Afif and he is cut down in the attacking third as a yellow card is shown to Cornellius.
David took a ball to the back post off the volley and put it on target, but it was Abunada who made the quick save as his body was still on the move.
Johnston with a ball into the middle and that is deflected out for a corner kick, the first of the night for the home side.
Qatar taking their time when they get it in the back and that is greeted by some boos from the local fans in Vancouver.
Great run from the back by Laryea and he carried it all the way into the box where he went down and looked for a penalty but none was to come for Canada.
Buchanan gets to the end line and sends in a cross on the right side that was over everyone and out of danger for Qatar.
Qatar with an early warning sign, it was Laye who looked for Edmilison on the back post but that pass was just a little high of the winger. Good start for Qatar and that will give them confidence moving forward.
For Jesse Marsch, it's Crepeau in goal with Johnston, De Fougerolles, Cornelius and Laryea in the back, with Buchanan, Eustaquio, Kone and Ahmed in the middle and David and Larin up top.
WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM VANCOUVER!!!
Vancouver is open for business
We are north of the border again after Canada kicked off their World Cup campaign. They played Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto and today's game will be played in Vancouver. This is one of four group stage games being played here, including the Switzerland and Canada match that could determine the winner of this group. One round of 32 match and one round of 16 match will also be played here.

Odds after first round of games
The oddsmakers board has seen some movement over the last couple of days. Spain came into the tournament as the slight favroites over France, but their draw against Cape Verde gave them a dose of reality and knocked them out of the favorite spot in the minds of the oddsmakers. According to our friends at Bet365 France are now favorites to win at 5/1, with Spain and England in second and third at 7/1. Argentina are 9/1 while Portugal is 10/1 and Brazil rounds out the top six at 11/1. Neither of these two sides are expected to compete and that’s why their odds are 126/1 (Canada) and 2001/1 (Qatar).
World Cup history: Qatar
Before they hosted the World Cup in 2022 Qatar had never been a part of the World Cup. The country has been around since 1971 but it took more than 50 years to make their debut in the World Cup. Now they are here for the second straight tournament after qualifying for the first time in their history. Their first World Cup was rough, losing all three group stage games and scoring just one goal. This time around they have a goal and a point already after their draw with Switzerland.
World Cup history: Canada
Believe it or not, this is just the third time the Canadians have ever qualified for the World Cup. I know it's a hockey country and nowadays it's a basketball country but just twice before? They made it in 1986 when the World Cup was held in Mexico and the only other time was in Qatar four years ago. They have never made it past group stages but have a great chance to do so with a win today.
Groups that are all square
We have three different groups which are all deadlocked at a point across the board. The First Group is this Group, Group B. We already know the break down, and even though Qatars and BandH's draws were surprising, I think Belgium’s draw to Egypt was even more surprising. That meant that everyone in Group B is at a point a piece after New Zealand and Iran shared the spoils in the first batch of matches. Group H is the other group that has all four of their teams locked at a point a piece. Spain drew with debutants Cape Verde and Uruguay and Saudi Arabia played to a 1-1 draw.
Group B standings
After all four teams ended the first round of matches level on a point coming into today, it was one of three groups that ended with all four teams locked at a single point a piece. That means things are wide open coming into today. Whoever wins this game will take one step closer to the next stage, but who ever loses won't be out of contention to get to the round of 32.
Star watch: Canada
Alphonso Davies has been the face of this national team for quite some time, but now the younger generation is going to have to take over with their captain sidelined with injury. Oluwaseyi Tanitoluwa and Tajon Buchanan both play for Villarreal in La Liga, but the biggest star on the biggest team outside of Davies is Jonathan David. The 26 year old made the move from Lille to Juventus last summer and scored 6 goals while providing 4 assists in his first season in Serie A and another two goals and an assist in the Champions League.
Star watch Qatar
If you are looking for the star of the Qatar show, look no farther than the man in goal. Mahmud Abunada was the hero of the first match against Switzerland, stopping five shots and exploding on to the World Cup scene before a bit of his thunder was stolen by Cape Verde keeper Vozinha. If Qatar are going to continue to make history, you would have to think it's going to be on the shoulders of their keeper considering goals will come few and far between.
Last match: Qatar
It was a historic day for Qatar last week in Santa Clara, California. The 2022 hosts of the World Cup earned their first point in the country's history of the tournament against a Switzerland side that was ranked considerably higher than the Qataris. Breel Emobolo put the Swiss on the board first with a penalty in the 17th minute. It looked like Qatar was going to lost yet another World Cup match but Mahmud Abunada made five saves to keep his side in the match until stoppage time when Switzerland's Miro Muheim was credited with an own goal and Qatar earned their first ever point in the World Cup.
Last match: Canada
It was a shaky start for Canada in their first match as World Cup hosts. Nerves might have played a factor for Jesse Marsch's team. Jovo Lukic put Bosnia and Herzegovina up 1-0 in the 21st minute as Canada took a little while to get the ball rolling. Cyle Larin was subbed on in the 76th minute and two minutes later scored the equalizer to share the spoils with the Bosnians.

Hello everyone and welcome to Vancouver where the Canadian co-hosts of the World Cup don't have much room for error today against Qatar. After a draw in the the opening match up of the group stages against Bosnia and Herzegovina things can get awfully complicated if they don’t secure three points against a heavy underdog in Qatar. A win would almost guarantee them a spot in the round of 32 before their match up with Switzerland in the next round, and they want to book their iced to the next round as soon as they can.
