Car crash doesn’t stop Alexander Arnold playing for Liverpool against Everton
The Liverpool defender was involved in an accident ahead of the Merseyside derby, when an electricity pole had fallen due to the storm hitting the UK.
Trent Alexander-Arnold experienced one of the most significant scares of his life on Friday. The Liverpool footballer was involved in a traffic accident when the alarming storm Babet, with winds exceeding 110 kilometers per hour, tore a utility pole from its foundations, causing it to fall onto the road where the Englishman was driving. The high-voltage cable, weighing over half a ton and standing at more than 12 meters in height, collided with the car directly in front of the player and his Range Rover.
And despite some concerns, he’s made it into The Reds’ starting line-up for Saturday’s early kick-off against local rivals Everton.
Liverpool hoping for no car crash defending
Fortunately for Trent, he quickly applied the brakes and swerved in an attempt to avoid the BMW X5 traveling ahead, but the narrow dimensions of the road and its dampness prevented the situation from ending without any damage. Both vehicles were significantly impacted all caused by the storm currently wreaking havoc in the United Kingdom.
“The wind was so strong that it suddenly ripped the pole out. It was genuinely terrifying. It’s a miracle that no one was injured. Someone could have easily been killed,” stated a source to UK media.
Alexander-Arnold emerged unharmed from the accident, as did the driver of the other vehicle, with whom the footballer was seen conversing after the collision.
“What were the chances of that happening? Alexander-Arnold must feel as though he cheated death. A few seconds later, and it could have come through his windscreen,” added an eyewitness. It’s worth noting that several officers arrived at the scene of the accident, and the electricity supply was cut off for a period.
The collision occurred shortly after ten in the morning on Friday, and authorities reported that there were no injuries, with the matter being resolved by early afternoon. It did not prevent Trent from attending Liverpool’s training center to prepare for the match that Jürgen Klopp’s team will play at Anfield.
Three dead from Storm Babet
In the past hours, there have been reports of a 60-year-old man’s death due to the havoc caused by the storm Babet. This marks the third fatality caused by the storm following the discovery of the bodies of a 56-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman.
Flooding in homes, school closures, highways and train routes rendered unusable, and accidents like the one experienced by Alexander-Arnold have become commonplace in recent days. However, it is expected that the state of emergency will conclude by the end of this weekend.
