Carlo Ancelotti will break Sir Alex Ferguson’s record as the manager with the most Champions League games when Real Madrid take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

The Real Madrid boss is the only coach to have won the competition four times and his 50th Champions League match in charge of Madrid will see him eclipse the record of 190 games set by his friend Ferguson.

After the 1-1 draw between Madrid and City last week, the Italian will face Pep Guardiola for his 191st game in Europe’s top competition, becoming the manager with the most games in the history of the competition.

Ancelotti’s Champions League record

Ancelotti is the coach with the most wins in the Champions League and in his 190 games to date, he has won 107, drawn 43, and has been on the losing end 40 times.

Most Champions League finals

The 63-year-old has been involved in the most Champions League finals in history (5) and Ancelotti, who guided Madrid to the title last year, can also claim to be the coach who has managed the most teams in over 25 years of Champions League football (8): Parma, Juventus, Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Napoli.

Ferguson’s 190 games were all in charge of Manchester United, while Ancelotti’s have been with AC Milan (73), Bayern (12), Chelsea (18), Juventus (10), Napoli (12), Parma (6), PSG (10) and Real Madrid (49).

Arsene Wenger’s 178 Champions League games were with Arsenal (171) and Monaco (7) and Guardiola’s games in Europe have been with Barcelona (49), Bayern (36) and Manchester City (73).
