Cesc Fabregas dreaming of a move to Premier League, but not now

Como manager and Premier League legend Cesc Fabregas will be one of the most sought after managers this summer, but he has stated he’s in no rush to move.

Update:

Cesc Fabregas may call Como home right now, but his heart and his future seem to be in England. This summer there will be plenty of clubs lining up and looking to court the Como manager, but Cesc seems to have his heart set on building the project in Lombardy.

Focused on Como

In a little more than two seasons with the Italian side Fabregas has taken Como from Serie B to the top division in Italy for the first time in over two decades. Cesc instantly became a club legend, but he wasn’t stopping there. In year one Como placed 12th in Serie A, and now they are set to be playing in Europe next year.

Given his recent success, it’s only natural that he has jumped to the top of the wish list of clubs looking for a new manager this summer, but he says he’s not going anywhere “The Premier League is the best league in the world,” Fabregas told the Daily Telegraph. “I’ve always been very, very clear about it. I felt it as a player, I feel it as a coach, as a fan.”

One of the clubs that are sure to be looking to contact Cesc, is his former club Chelsea. They are currently on their third manager of the season after firing Enzo Maresca in January and parting ways with Liam Rosenior a couple weeks ago. Cesc has history with the club, but while he was at Stamford Bridge he got a bit of advice that will most likely keep him away from a return to England anything soon.

Champions League looming?

One his former managers gave him some wise advice that the board at Chelsea will be wishing Fabregas never hear. “[Jose] Mourinho told me one day when I was at Chelsea: ‘I still have 30 years to work.’ So I could be here [Como] for 10 years, and you can still go to the Premier League in 12, 15 years.”

Fabregas seems intent on not just making Como a one hit wonder but building them into a constant contender in Serie A. They are in fifth place with 62 points, and would be playing in Europa League if the season ended today. With three games to go they still have a chance to catch fourth placed Juventus with 65 points to make their first ever Champions League next year.

While the project is thriving in his first few seasons at Como, Cesc has been around the sport for a long time and he knows that things can chance in the blink of an eye. “Football is so unpredictable, it changes in one second. One day, you are the best. The day after, you are the worst. So let’s enjoy the moment. I like to enjoy the moment. It’s beautiful what we are living here. Let’s see what the future holds.” For now it seems like he will keep the Premier League on the back burner and maintain focus how to keep improving at the club that gave him his first shot at being a manager.
