Chelsea youngster Jesse Derry suffered a serious injury against Nottingham Forest on Monday, leaving the game on a stretcher after a long stoppage.
Derry, who was making his Premier League debut for Chelsea, collided with Forest defender Zach Abbott towards the end of the first half at Stamford Bridge. Derry and Abbott clashed heads while competing for an aerial ball and both players required medical treatment and were substituted. Chelsea were awarded a penalty but Cole Palmer missed the spot kick.

TalkSport in the UK reports that Derry was knocked unconscious in the collision and medical staff gave him oxygen on the field. The total delay lasted close to ten minutes before he was stretchered off, replaced by Liam Delap.
Who is Jesse Derry?
The 18-year-old forward joined Chelsea’s youth team last year from Crystal Palace. He was named Palace’s Under-18 Player of the Season for the 2023/24 season and was subsequently snapped up by Chelsea on a four-year deal.
He made his Chelsea derby in February 2026, coming on in the second half of an FA Cup win over Hull City. Derry has been a regular with England at youth team level, racking up 15 appearances and eight goals from the U19 squad.
