Four teams from Spain are to go into the hat in Nyon, after Europa League holders Sevilla were the only side from the country that failed to qualify from this season’s group phase.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has just two clubs in the knockout stages, after Manchester United and Newcastle both finished bottom of their group. Previously, an English team had come fourth in the opening phase only three times in Champions League history.
