Champions League state of play: when are the second leg games of the round of 16?

It was a thrilling day of Champions League action. Surprises, blowouts and a couple of draws marked the first-leg games in the round of 16 of Europe’s top club competition. There’s plenty of intrigue ahead of the second legs, with teams still dreaming of reaching the Puskás Aréna, where the final will be played.

Bayern Munich thrashed Atalanta 6-1 in Bergamo, while Real Madrid beat Manchester City 3-0 and Paris Saint-Germain defeated Chelsea 5-2. In another lopsided result, Atlético Madrid downed Tottenham 5-2.

The biggest surprises came from Bodø/Glimt, who beat Sporting Lisbon 3-0, with Luis Javier Suárez playing the full 90 minutes, while Galatasaray, with Davinson Sánchez in the starting lineup and Yaser Asprilla coming off the bench, edged Liverpool 1-0. The other two games – Newcastle vs. Barcelona and Leverkusen vs. Arsenal – ended in 1-1 draws.

When will the second-leg games of the Champions League round of 16 be played?

The second-leg games in the Champions League round of 16 are scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18.

There will be four games each day. One game will kick off at 1:45 p.m. ET, while the other three are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.

March 17

1:45 p.m. ET: Sporting Lisbon vs. Bodø/Glimt

4:00 p.m. ET: Chelsea vs. PSG

4:00 p.m. ET: Manchester City vs. Real Madrid

4:00 p.m. ET: Arsenal vs. Leverkusen

March 18

1:45 p.m. ET: Barcelona vs. Newcastle

4:00 p.m. ET: Tottenham vs. Atlético Madrid

4:00 p.m. ET: Liverpool vs. Galatasaray

4:00 p.m. ET: Bayern Munich vs. Atalanta

The eight teams that win their matchups will move on to the quarterfinals, scheduled for April 7-8 and April 14-15.
