Fernández was recently given a two-game suspension by Chelsea for revealing that he wanted to live in Madrid in the future.

Chelsea star Enzo Fernández has been spotted in Madrid with teammates João Pedro and Marc Cucurella, just weeks after controversial comments sparked talk of a summer move to Real Madrid.

After securing their place in the FA Cup final by beating Leeds last weekend, Chelsea gave their squad a couple of days off as compensation. The players have chance to clear their minds ahead of the most important part of the season and a small group decided to head to the Spanish capital.

Fernández was among those who decided to spend those days in the Spanish capital for a mini-vacation, strolling around the city center and heading to the Mutua Madrid Open. A tennis fanatic, the midfielder was also seen at the Caja Mágica last year alongside Cucurella, Pedro Neto and Nico Jackson.

Fernández sparks Real Madrid rumors

A key player with Chelsea, Fernández was heavily criticized and sanctioned just a few weeks ago after declaring his “love” for Madrid and hinting that he would be open to living in the Spanish capital. The Argentine midfielder was signed by Chelsea off the back of his performances with the national team at World Cup 2022. Recent comments made in an interview were taken as a sign that he is looking to leave West London.

“I’d like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid, it reminds me of Buenos Aires. I would live in Madrid. A footballer lives wherever he wants,” he said in a YouTube interview with Avirales. Chelsea acted swiftly and issued a two-match suspension, ensuring that he missed games against Port Vale and Manchester City.

After the suspension, Chelsea reinstated him as captain and starter for the team. Controversy aside, Fernández has been one of few solid performers for Chelsea this season and has contributed 13 goals and six assists in 49 matches. With the World Cup just around the corner, he will hope to finish the season strongly with Chelsea and help Argentina defend their World Cup crown.
