Leeds United and USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams is close to joining Chelsea as the London club are set to activate his release clause.

The defensive-midfielder, 24, joined Leeds last summer under the orders of then-boss, Jesse Marsch, who led Leeds until the turn of the year, when he was sacked after poor results. Adams was a key part of the Leeds team during the first half of the season and despite the club ultimately suffering relegation, many praised the performances of the player. He later suffered an injury which is still keeping him on the sidelines.

Adams, who played 24 times for Leeds last season, reportedly has a relegation release clause written into his contract which is now going to be activated as Chelsea continue their summer spending.

How much is Tyler Adams’ release clause at Leeds?

The Athletic, who broke the story of the Adams move, say that the player has a release clause in the region of £20million ($25.5m). On Monday, Chelsea stepped up their interest in Adams and now the deal has edged closer. Some news outlets also report that Adams has even agreed terms with Chelsea ahead of a move, and The Athletic say that wages are not an issue.

Moises Caicedo is also a target for Chelsea, as is Southampton’s Romeo Lavia. As for the former, Chelsea have seen bids rejected from Brighton for their midfielder, but Sky Sports say that both Liverpool and Bayern Munich are very keen on bringing the player in. Romeo Lavia has also been heavily linked with a move for Lavia, as they look to fill the gap left by Jordan Henderson.
