Update:

As the curtain falls on the Apertura 2025 regular season, Chivas Guadalajara aren’t just fighting to lock in sixth place and the final automatic spot in the playoffs - they’re also on the verge of witnessing history. For striker Armando González, this weekend could mark a career-defining moment as he closes in on becoming the club’s top scorer in short-format tournaments.

González nears historic milestone

Nicknamed La Hormiga (“The Ant”), the homegrown forward has netted 11 goals this season, putting him just one shy of tying club legends Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, Omar Bravo, and Alan Pulido - each of whom scored 12 goals in a single regular-season campaign.

González is also in the thick of the race for the Apertura 2025 Golden Boot, currently tied at the top with Toluca’s Paulinho and Atlético San Luis’ Joao Pedro, both also sitting on 11 goals. No Chivas player has claimed the league’s top scorer title since Pulido in Apertura 2019.

In terms of club history, González has already matched the 11-goal tallies of Gaby García (Invierno 1996) and Chicharito (Apertura 2009), Now, just two goals separate him from the all-time regular-season record for Chivas in short tournaments.

Bravo and Pulido’s club-record 12-goal hauls were achieved in the Clausura 2005 and Apertura 2019, respectively. Pulido’s breakout season not only earned him the Golden Boot but also paved the way for his move to Major League Soccer, where he joined Sporting Kansas City.

Everything is set for Armando González to etch his name in Chivas lore, in a tournament that could prove pivotal for both the club and his own career trajectory.
