New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was carted from the field after receiving a huge hit in Sunday’s game at the Carolina Panthers.

Olave collided with two Panthers defenders, seemingly receiving the hardest knock from Xavier Woods. The 24-year-old remained on the ground, unmoving, after the hit but was soon able to move his extremities.

That news, relayed by the in-stadium announcers, will have calmed some fears of a major injury but the hit was a substantial one. Olave was quickly ruled out for the game and his availability for the coming weeks will now be a doubt.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter confirmed that Olave had received a concussion.

How many concussions has Chris Olave had?

The hit sustained by Olave on Sunday was not the first that he has received in recent outings. He was ruled out of Week 7 action after suffering a concussion the previous week, meaning that Sunday’s is his second in just three weeks.

The Saints confirmed on Sunday that Olave has suffered a concussion in each of his three NFL seasons. The latest is the fourth of his professional career and will be a major concern for a player still so young.

Shortly after the incident, former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas took to social media to criticise QB Derek Carr for putting his teammates in harm’s way with risky passes. Thomas has made similar comments in the past.
