Christian Pulisic has a new name on his AC Milan jersey

AC Milan’s slim hopes of a top four finish were kept alive on Friday by Christian Pulisic, who helped bring his team back from the brink against Bologna.

The American has been one of few bright spots in a bleak season for Milan and he kept up that good form. With Milan a goal down at San Siro, Pulisic provided a goal and an assist to set his side on the way to a 3-1 win.

Pulisic’s impressive performances in Milan have attracted plenty of interest from the US and eagle-eyed fans will have noticed a change to his red and black jersey. Instead of ‘Pulisic’ on the back the USMNT star had ‘Harlow‘, his mother’s maiden name.

He was not the only one. For a second successive year AC Milan marked the weekend of Mother’s Day switching players’ surnames for their mothers‘.

A statement released by the club explained that Milan’s Fondazione Milan are also launching a fundraising campaign to help teenage mother in the city’s suburbs: “A portion of the proceeds from the auction of match-worn shirts and Mascot experiences -- generously provided by ComAve, AC Milan’s Global Partner and Shopping Experience Platform Partner -- will go towards the fundraiser."

Milan jerseys will revert to the normal when they take on Bologna again next week, in the Coppa Italia final. On Wednesday, May 14 the two sides will go head to head at Stadio Olimpico, Rome.

The 2024/25 campaign has been a messy, underwhelming one for AC Milan. But a Coppa Italia triumph would certainly improve perceptions of the year’s work and will give head coach Sergio Conceicao some momentum after a tough first season.
