Chivas await winner of América-Cruz Azul clash in Copa Sky final

All 18 Liga MX sides are undergoing their final preparations ahead of the 2023 Liga MX Clausura campaign getting underway in early January as Necaxa open the campaign at home to San Luis. All sides will then play 17 match-days in the regular season ahead of the wild-card ‘repechage’ phase and ‘liguilla’ play-off.

Ten top flight Mexican clubs have been participating in the Copa Sky with two groups of five teams doing battle with the winners in each group going head-to-head on 30 December in the final.

Group B has already been sewn-up by Veljko Paunović's Chivas side who have been impressive in recording three wins from three to mathematically progress to the final. What is outstanding is who will play the ‘Rebaño’ in the final with just Cruz Azul and Club América in contention to win Group A.

Group A scenario

Following Necaxa’s Monday night loss to Toluca, Pumas currently top the table on 5 points and with a +1 goal difference. Both the university side and Toluca (also on five points) have played all four games but cannot top the group.

The final Group A game is the contest that is ultimately destined to decide the winner of Group A as Cruz Azul face Club America on Tuesday night at the Nemesio Diez Stadium.

A win for ‘La Maquina’ or the ‘Aguilas’ would mean automatic qualification for the final and a draw would suit Cruz Azul and they would advance with six points.
