Ter Stegen set to leave Barça camp and fly to Amsterdam to finalize season‑long loan to Ajax
The tax issues have now been resolved and the goalkeeper is set to join Ajax on a season-long loan.

Marc‑André ter Stegen is preparing to leave Barcelona’s preseason base at St. George’s Park in England within the next few hours to travel to Amsterdam, where he will finalize a one‑year loan move to Ajax.
The deal between both clubs has been in place for days, but minor tax‑related complications delayed the operation — complications that have now been resolved.
Tax issues were the final hurdle
The sticking point involved double taxation between Spain and the Netherlands. Ter Stegen believed the additional tax burden should be covered by the clubs, while Ajax refused to assume that cost. In the end, Barcelona found a financial mechanism to unlock the situation and push the deal forward.
Even though the transfer was nearly closed, Hansi Flick and Barça decided Ter Stegen should still travel with the squad to England. However, the German goalkeeper did not participate in Thursday’s training session, signaling that the move is now entering its final phase.
What it means for Barcelona
Ter Stegen’s departure opens the door for Barcelona to reshape its goalkeeping depth chart heading into the season. With the loan now on track to be completed, Barça will need to determine how to cover the position internally or whether to bring in another keeper before the window closes.
