LIGA MX APERTURA FINAL
Club América coach André Jardine warns Tigres of “something big” ahead of Liga MX Apertura final
The Brazilian warned that he has been planning a surprise against Tigres since the start of the season.
América and Tigres drew 1-1 in the first leg of the Apertura 2023 final in a match in which Las Águilas were the better team but were unable to hold on to their lead. Despite not leaving the Azteca Stadium with an advantage, coach André Jardine was confident that his team could win the second leg thanks to “something big” that they have been preparing... since match day one.
At the press conference, Jardine issued a stark warning to Tigres for the upcoming second leg, which will be played on Sunday, December 17. “I told them that the most important thing in this kind of match is to deserve to win. For me, our team deserved better luck, but we have been planning something big since match day one. Sunday will be the time to stick to what we set out from the beginning,” he said.
Jardine says América ‘played well’ against Tigres in first leg
The Brazilian thought strongly that his team were superior to Tigres, but he lamented the lack of finishing, which left him unable to be fully satisfied. Nevertheless, he claimed he was, despite the result, at peace with the performance ahead of the game on Sunday. “I have the feeling that we did a good job and played well. The team interpreted Tigres’ intentions in the correct way: we fought well and, for me, we had the clearest chances to score,” he pointed out.
Finally, Jardine did not want to talk about the performance of the referee, thus avoiding further controversy ahead of the second leg.
