Club América headed to the U.S.
Ahead of the Liga MX’s Apertura 2026 tournament, América is set to face MLS opposition in a friendly.
After being knocked out in the Clausura 2026 quarterfinals, Club América’s players headed off on vacation. Now, they’re back to begin preparations for the Liga MX’s Apertura 2026 campaign.
On social media, América announced that on July 11 - just five days before the start of the new tournament - they’ll play a preseason friendly in the United States to wrap up Guillermo Almada’s squad’s buildup.
América will face off against the L.A. Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Galaxy unbeaten vs América
Las Águilas have faced the Los Angeles side twice before - and Liga MX’s most decorated club is still searching for its first win against one of Major League Soccer’s historic franchises.
Across those two meetings, the Galaxy holds the edge thanks to one win and one draw. Their first clash came in the International Champions Cup, where the Galaxy defeated the Coapa side 2-1. The second meeting took place in 2025, when América was held to a 2-2 draw in a friendly.
Eyeing another tune-up
América is also considering lining up one more opponent before the Liga MX season kicks off.
Los Azulcremas are scheduled to open up their Apertura 2026 campaign on July 18 at La Corregidora against Querétaro. They won’t return home to Estadio Ciudad de México until August 2, when they host Santos Laguna.
