The only possible transfer destination for Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez
After failed offers from both Real Madrid and Barcelona, it appears only one club is in a position to land Atlético’s Julián Álvarez.

The situation facing Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona and, above all, Julián Álvarez is anything but simple. What is abundantly clear is that Los Rojiblancos are at pains to defend their interests tooth and nail. Both current and former executives have shown no hesitation in putting anyone on the spot who tries to destabilize the club.
Madrid’s newly re-elected president, Florentino Pérez, has followed through on his promise to table a €150 million ($173 million) offer for a top-tier player, one who presumably had already given the green light. In recent days, the club has worked tirelessly to identify the right name to justify such a bold move. Álvarez wasn’t the only option discussed in repeated meetings at Valdebebas - players like Michael Olise and João Neves were also on the table.
Los Blancos will continue their search for that difference-maker, while also focusing on rebuilding a squad that has lost its winning edge. The deals for Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries are not the end of the process. More signings are coming, and there could also be at least one high-profile departure involving a key player.
Yesterday’s episode - Atlético’s official statements released via social media - was privately met with amusement at Real Madrid. Inside the club, they insist they did what had to be done, a stance that sharply contrasts with Atlético’s position, as clearly demonstrated. There is no room for negotiation unless the player forces the issue.
Barça: Not a penny over 100
Barcelona, meanwhile, has no intention of going beyond the €100 million ($115 million) they’ve already offered for Álvarez. In fact, they are already considering João Pedro as a fallback option, a player who has reportedly given his approval to join the Blaugrana. At Camp Nou, there has been little reaction to what many see as a theatrical move by Madrid.
As things stand, the only real escape route for Álvarez may be Arsenal. The Premier League club has both the interest and the financial power to pursue the Argentine. Even so, it won’t be easy. The World Cup winner’s future at Atlético remains uncertain, despite the club’s firm desire to keep him leading the line.
