Confusion in Bernabéu VIP box over whistles aimed at Vinícius and Mbappé
Vinícius and Mbappé were criticized during Real Madrid’s Champions League quarterfinal defeat to Bayern Munich, surprising those in the VIP box.

The Champions League never disappoints. Never. The Bernabéu is one of football’s great temples, and it was never going to miss out on the spectacle of European competition.
UEFA and Real Madrid’s united front
UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin saw firsthand what Real Madrid and its iconic stadium represent. He wanted to stage a picture of unity in European soccer, and he succeeded, with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez seated to his left.
His return to the Bernabéu presidential box showed that goodwill is the best way to enjoy elite soccer. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich backed that up on the pitch, combining for 40 shots on goal in a game split evenly, 20 apiece. It was a chance-filled showcase from start to finish.
Matches like this cannot be taken off the calendar under any circumstances.

Power brokers in one place
Čeferin was the guest of honor, while Pérez acted as the perfect host. Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi also tried to join the moment, as head of the organization that represents most European clubs and a key figure in efforts to reunite the European game. He once flew in to meet Pérez directly in what became a step toward the current truce between power centers in European soccer.
Former star Luis Figo, now one of Čeferin’s trusted figures, was also spotted in the box. His arrival at Real Madrid years ago marked the beginning of Pérez’s current era at the club. It was a night defined by handshakes and embraces among Europe’s most influential soccer figures.
Vinícius and Mbappé criticism causes surprise
There were mixed feelings in the VIP area at full time. Executives from both clubs expressed frustration after the match, but what stood out on the Madrid side was the whistles and criticism aimed at Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé at various moments. Those reactions were described internally as inexplicable and absurd.
Thomas Tuchel, the England national team manager, left in a positive mood, reaffirming what is already understood about Harry Kane and suggesting that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s absence from the England setup should come to an end. He was seen satisfied with his players’ performance as he departed the Bernabeu.
