COPA AMÉRICA 2024

2024 Copa America: This is what group D looks like after matchday 2 | Standings, results and fixtures

Colombia and Brazil had positive results against their opponents, but what is their situation in Group D’s standings?

The Copa America 2024 enters its third and final group stage round of games to decide the teams that will progress to the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Some of those national sides are already among the best eight teams in the competition, like Argentina, Uruguay, and Venezuela. La Albiceleste are the No. 1 favorites to defend their title and they haven’t disappointed, with two wins that allowed them to take Group A’s top spot.

Uruguay will also play the tournament’s quarterfinals after convincingly winning their two games, although they will have to wait for the group stage’s third match to see if they advance as their section’s leaders.

Venezuela, one of the standout teams in the Copa America 2024, will also feature in the knockout stages after beating Ecuador and Mexico.

What does Copa America’s Group D look like?

A fourth team has made it to the next round in the soccer event, Colombia. Los Cafeteros were seen as one of the strongest sides before the start of the Copa America and on Friday they proved why.

After a hard-fought victory over Paraguay in their opening game, Nestor Lorenzo’s team took the ticket to the quarterfinals after thrashing Costa Rica (3-0) at State Farm Stadium, in Phoenix.

Colombia are now leading Group D’s table with six points, followed by Brazil, with four. Costa Rica are in the third spot with only one point, while Paraguay are on the bottom, with two losses-

The Brazilians convinced their fans after a comfortable win over Paraguay in their second match. After a goalless draw against Costa Rica, Dorival Junior’s players were obliged to get a positive result if they didn’t want to put their qualification at risk and have to go all in in a final game against Colombia.

After their triumph, Vinicius Jr. & co. could progress to the quarterfinals as their section’s best team if they defeat Colombia. If they draw, they will take the second spot, regardless of what Costa Rica do against Paraguay. Even in the case of a defeat against Colombia and a Costa Rica victory over Paraguay, the Brazilians have a +3 in goal difference, while Los Ticos have a -3, a six-goal difference between both sides, which makes it almost impossible for Gustavo Alfaro’s players to progress.
