Could América sign Brentford’s Sergi Canós ahead of Apertura 2023?
Club América continue their attempts to strengthen their squad ahead of the start of the latest Liga MX short tournament.
Having signed Kevin Álvarez from domestic rivals Pachuca earlier this month, Club América are now reportedly preparing to dip into the European market.
Brentford ready to let Canós leave
According to TNT sports, Brentford’s Sergi Canós is a target for the 13-time Mexican champions, who last week confirmed André Jardine as their new head coach.
Spaniard Canós, 26, spent last season on loan at Greek club Olympiacos. A product of Barcelona’s youth academy, the winger has a year left on his contract at Premier League side Brentford, who are said to be ready to listen to offers for the player.
Per Transfermarkt, Canós currently has an estimated value of €9 million ($9.8 million).
América set for next Apertura warm-up
Jardine, who replaces Fernando Ortiz in the América dugout, took charge of his first game as boss on Saturday, overseeing a 0-0 preseason-friendly draw with Toluca in Sandy, Utah.
América have another friendly on Tuesday, with Las Águilas heading to Edinburg, Texas, to face a Monterrey side that appointed Ortiz as their new head coach a week after his departure from the Estadio Azteca.
América kick off their Liga MX Apertura 2023 campaign on 30 June, hosting FC Juárez.
