Could Flamengo’s Arturo Vidal join Liga MX club Tigres?

The Chilean is reportedly a target for Tigres, who would be willing to match the salary he currently pockets in Brazil.

Tigres’ Clausura 2023 campaign is not yet over, but the Liga MX club already look to be combing the market for reinforcements for the Mexican league’s next tournament, the Apertura 2023. Despite their squad being one of the strongest in the division, it appears that the seven-time domestic champions are looking to add more star power to their ranks.

Tigres hopeful of summer swoop for Vidal

According to the media outlet Fla Web, Tigres are eyeing a move for Chilean international Arturo Vidal, who currently plies his trade for Brazilian club Flamengo.

Vidal is under contract with the South American champions until the end of 2023, but there is thought to be optimism at Tigres that the midfielder can be lured to the Estadio Universitario this summer. Indeed, some reports say the Mexicans have already begun the process of doing a deal for the 35-year-old, whose former clubs include Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Vidal personal terms shouldn’t be a problem

All the indications are that Vidal’s salary would not be an obstacle to a Tigres move, with Los Felinos ready to match the $3.6m annual pay packet that the veteran currently receives at Flamengo.

This is not the first time that Vidal, who has been capped 138 times by Chile, has been in the frame for a switch to the Liga MX. In 2021, during Santiago Solari’s tenure as Club América head coach, Las Águilas launched a bid to sign the player, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to take him to the Estadio Azteca.

Tigres face Toluca in the second leg of the Clausura 2023 quarter-finals on Sunday, with Roberto Siboldi’s men 4-1 up from the opening leg.
