Update:

Cristiano Ronaldo may now be 41 years old but he is still a key part of the Portugal national team as they look for a first-ever World Cup triumph at this summer’s tournament. Ronaldo remains a key part of Roberto Martinez’ Portugal team but his status for the upcoming international friendlies is now a doubt.

CR7 picked up a hamstring injury during a recent game for Al Nassr. The issue was flagged during a fixture against Al Fayha in the Saudi Pro League and he has now began a specific rehabilitation program. The news comes just weeks before Portugal head to North America for two friendlies, against Mexico and USMNT.

If Ronaldo is still working his way back to full fitness, he may decide not to take part in the trip to North America later this month. The 41-year-old is a famously dedicated trainer and does everything within his power to maintain optimum condition. Preparing for this year’s World Cup will be the main focus.

However an absence for these key pre-tournament friendlies would be a blow for Portugal as the team looks to build cohesion ahead of the World Cup. Martinez will hope that Ronaldo can take part in the March games but must now be braced to lose his talisman, less than 100 days from the start of the 2026 World Cup.
