Cristiano Ronaldo, out of this world again with title-clinching goal

There are no superlatives left for Cristiano Ronaldo. He stepped up again as the hero on a night that could define a season. Against the reigning Asian champions, with a goal very few could produce, the 970th of his career, he all but handed the league title to Al Nassr, who continue to benefit from one of the most decisive players the game has ever seen.

The match began with both teams showing intent but little quality on the ball. Defensive intensity dominated every phase, with misplaced passes, poor decision-making, and rushed actions. Franck Kessié, thriving in physical duels, stood out for an Al Ahli side unable to link up with Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney, the main attacking threats for the Asian champions.

Ronaldo was the most isolated player for Al Nassr. Leading the line, he rarely found himself in dangerous positions. His only real chance came from his own invention, creating space before firing a left-footed shot, but Edouard Mendy handled it comfortably to cap a first half defined by a goalless scoreline.

The second half began to take its toll on an Al Ahli side coming off a demanding week. Al Nassr started to find openings and push higher up the field. Just before the hour mark, João Félix wasted the clearest chance so far. After receiving a perfect pass at the penalty spot, he tried to guide it home with the inside of his foot, but leaning back sent the ball soaring into the Riyadh sky. Brutal and barely believable.

Shortly after, a serious-looking injury to Galeno cast a shadow over the game and left Al Ahli with a major concern. The Brazilian collided with Bento and, as he fell, landed awkwardly on his own leg, causing a dangerous twist to his knee.

With 15 minutes remaining came the defining moment. In situations that seem tailor-made for the game’s greatest figures, the usual man delivered. Ronaldo attacked a cross from fellow Portuguese João Félix, rose above everyone, and powered home a header worthy of the occasion. Flawless execution.

Al Nassr see out the game

With the lead secured, Al Nassr focused on holding firm and closing out the game. Marshaled in defense by Iñigo Martínez and Mohamed Simakan, the Riyadh side repelled the efforts of a tiring Al Ahli. It was a display of resilience that allowed them to see out the match without conceding and move within touching distance of the title. A goal from Kingsley Coman right at the death was the icing on the cake.

Four games remain and the advantage is comfortable thanks to yet another moment of brilliance from Cristiano, who is closing in on his first title since arriving in Saudi Arabia and hitting peak form at just the right time before the World Cup.
