Cruz Azul concern: Cementeros’ crisis continues
Cruz Azul’s Clausura 2026 draw with Tijuana extended a winless run that has now lasted for well over a month.
Cruz Azul remains mired in a troubling slump, settling for a 1-1 draw against Tijuana at Estadio Cuauhtémoc, a result that extends its winless streak to eight straight matches.
A streak that has La Máquina on edge
Since its March 10 victory over Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the Cementeros have posted six draws and two losses, a stretch that clearly reflects a drop in form both in league play and across other tournaments.
During this run, La Máquina has let points slip away against opponents such as Pumas, Monterrey, Mazatlán, América and Tijuana, while also suffering defeats at the hands of Pachuca and Los Angeles FC. The pattern has exposed a worrying lack of finishing and defensive solidity.
Pumas jump ahead as the standings tighten
This negative stretch has already had tangible consequences. Pumas have overtaken Cruz Azul in the standings, while clubs like Pachuca and Toluca remain close behind, cranking up the pressure as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
Despite the difficult moment, Nicolás Larcamón’s side still sits third in the Clausura 2026 with 29 points, built on eight wins, five draws and two losses, along with 26 goals scored and 16 conceded.
Even so, Cruz Azul has fallen well off the pace set by league leaders Chivas, who top the table with 34 points. That gap leaves little margin for error and forces the Cementeros to respond quickly if they hope to enter the playoffs with genuine title aspirations.
A decisive finish to the tournament
As the Clausura 2026 winds down, Cruz Azul has two crucial matches remaining: first a matchup against Querétaro, followed by the regular-season finale against Necaxa. Those fixtures figure to be decisive opportunities to restore confidence and momentum at exactly the right time.
