Cruz Azul’s Santiago Giménez is ready to make the switch to Europe
The Mexican international scored a brace in Cruz Azul’s 2-2 draw against Puebla on matchday 4 and he could have played his last match in Liga MX.
Santiago Giménez has made three appearances in the 2022 Clausura tournament and he has already scored three goals. The Mexican international scored a brace on matchday 4 in Cruz Azul’s 2-2 draw against Puebla on Saturday night and that could have been his last match in Liga MX.
Giménez ready to make the switch
Cruz Azul have reportedly reached an agreement to send the 21-year-old striker to Feyernoord and Giménez will travel to the Netherlands early this week. The Mexican international will undergo a medical examination and sign his new contract for the start of the 2022/23 Eredivisie campaign.
“Obviously I believe a lot in faith and my faith tells me that it is time to take risks and fight for my dreams. That is what I want and it is a risk because I could not play in Europe and not be considered for the World Cup. But that’s what soccer is about and I have to take risks to achieve my dreams,” said Giménez.
The 21-year-old striker is aware that if he doesn’t get minutes at the beginning of the Eredivisie season the coach of the Mexico national team, Gerardo Martino, might not include him in the final roster that will travel to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup. It is a risk he is aware of but his dream was to play in Europe’s top tier.
