Diomande unlikely to be the final addition to Mourinho’s new Real Madrid
Yan Diomande’s mooted arrival at Real Madrid would be followed by further changes to Los Blancos’ roster before the end of the summer.
Real Madrid’s roster is far from finalized. More arrivals and departures are expected, as evidenced by the club’s ongoing talks with RB Leipzig over a deal for Yan Diomande. The winger, who spent the 2024-25 season with Leganés, is on the verge of becoming Madrid’s newest signing. He would be the fifth addition to José Mourinho’s squad, but he is unlikely to be the last new face in the dressing room before the transfer window closes.
Will Rodri join Real Madrid this summer?
Alongside the speedy and skillful Ivory Coast international, Rodri’s name has been everywhere in recent days, even though Madrid continue to deny making any move for the Manchester City midfielder. In that regard, AS understands that, for now, nothing has happened beyond the player’s widely discussed interest in returning to LaLiga, with Madrid seen as his preferred destination.
What was a firm “no” from Madrid executives just a few weeks ago has now evolved into: “The transfer window remains open until September, and many things can happen. But at the moment, nothing has happened.” Voices within the club who favor exploring a potential deal continue to push the idea, although they have yet to receive the backing needed to move negotiations forward.
Regardless, Madrid will need to offload players before making room for further signings, particularly in midfield. Bernardo Silva’s arrival has added another body to that area of the pitch without any corresponding departure. Aside from Dani Ceballos’ permanent exit, after a season in which he featured only sparingly, the only other midfield development has been Aurélien Tchouaméni signing a new contract.
Mourinho has made it clear that he wants his team to play with speed and directness. He is highly satisfied with the squad he currently has at his disposal, but he remains open to strengthening the roster and reshuffling the deck in search of the ideal formula. The bottom line is that more changes are coming to a squad that has already undergone significant turnover. One by one, players are returning from the World Cup and getting a firsthand understanding of the expectations being set by both Mourinho and the club.
Who could leave Real Madrid?
With Diomande’s arrival now close, attention turns to Vinícius Júnior and the decisions that will be made regarding his future. The Brazilian is expected back in Madrid within the next few days, and executives at Valdebebas are eager to reach a swift resolution on whether he will remain with the club or depart. Allowing his current situation to drag on while his contract continues to wind down runs counter to the club’s preferred course of action.
The futures of players such as Raúl Asencio, Gonzalo García, Franco Mastantuono, Brahim Díaz and Eduardo Camavinga also remain unresolved. The latter two have made it clear that they intend to stay at Madrid. Asencio hopes to turn his situation around, but faces an uphill battle. Agent Jorge Mendes is actively searching for a new destination for the center back, while Gonzalo and Mastantuono already know they will be leaving in the coming days, on a permanent transfer and a loan deal, respectively.
