Do Borussia Dortmund have an option to buy Jadon Sancho from Manchester United after his loan?

Sancho has been frozen out of the first team by the Red Devils after a public falling out with manager Erik Ten Hag.

Borussia Dortmund have completed a loan deal for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who previously spent four years with the German club between 2017 and 2021.

How much did the Red Devils pay for Sancho?

The 23-year-old, who was in Manchester City’s academy for two years as a teenager, joined the Red Devils for a reported transfer fee of €85 million (around $93.4 million) two and a half years ago after a hugely impressive spell in Germany, in which he scored 50 goals and assisted a further 64 in 137 games.

When did the winger last play for United?

However, he has flattered to deceive in the Premier League, rarely nailing down a regular starting spot under either Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick or current boss Erik Ten Hag. Sancho has endured an especially turbulent relationship with the Dutchman and hasn’t played a game for United since 26 August as a result.

How did Sancho and Ten Hag fall out?

He England international was frozen out of the first team and forced to train on his own by the Manchester club after publicly criticising Ten Hag on social media, an act for which he has refused to apologise. The former Ajax boss had previously said he didn’t select Sancho for the defeat away to Arsenal because he had trained poorly.

Sancho to Dortmund loan deal details

Sancho, who is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2026, will now re-join Dortmund on a six-month loan deal until the end of the season, with the Bundesliga side paying a fee of €4 million ($4.3 million) and covering a percentage of his wages. The deal doesn’t, however, include an option to buy in the summer, but United could be tempted to sell the player anyway given his frosty relationship with Ten Hag.
