Does Kylian Mbappé want to renew with PSG in 2024?

PSG believe that a good Champions League run will bring Mbappé closer to renewing.

Just four days after the transfer window closed, Kylian Mbappé has again been the focus of attention in the French media. According to L’Équipe in France, the forward has no intention of renewing his contract with PSG, and his objective, as the prestigious French newspaper stresses, is still to be released in 2024 to sign for a new club.

Despite the excessive optimism in the French capital, especially after the first meeting with the player on August 12 at the Parc des Princes, the captain of the France national team has not changed what he wrote in a letter sent to the club’s headquarters on June 12.

More Mbappé talk

The subject is repetitive, ongoing, and never-ending, but Mbappé remains the hot topic in France. His presence at PSG this season has been celebrated by the club, who have bought in the summer transfer window - something they promised him last year and which provoked the player’s anger that it had not materialised, to the point of notifying them on July 15, 2022, that he regretted renewing. According to L’Équipe, top Qatari officials believe that a good run in the Champions League could make him change his mind.

Champions League group of death for PSG

PSG president Nasser Al Khelaïfi, after hearing in Monaco that PSG had been drawn into the Champions League group of death, did not want to talk about Mbappé's possible renewal. He limited himself to commenting that he had “held talks with the player and the family”, but did not want to take a contract extension for granted.

The player from Bondy, who is currently on international duty with France, wants to have his destiny in his own hands and, for the moment, his intention not to renew has not changed.

Up to Mbappé

Real Madrid are keeping an eye on the situation from afar but Mbappé's future depends solely and exclusively on the player. Liverpool, who tried to sign him in 2017 when he left Monaco for PSG, have not ruled out making a bid next year when they are free to negotiate from January 1.

The Mbappé soap opera, however repetitive, has not escaped the French media. The season will be very, very long in Paris.
