Ecuador vs Senegal summary: Koulibaly goal, fulltime, score, stats and updates 1-2 | Qatar World Cup 2022
Full-time: Ecuador 1 - 2 Senegal
Clement Turpin blows the whistle and Ecuador's World Cup is over. They join Qatar as the teams dumped out of Group A.
Ecuador had frustrated Senegal for much of the first-half, knowing their opponents needed to win to progress, but the Africans were awarded a penalty late on after Piero Reyna fouled Ismaila Sarr. The Watford winger confidently tucked his spot-kick away to put Senegal into the driving seat at the break.
The South Americans struggled offensively all game but dug out an equaliser through Moisés Caicedo. A draw would have been enough to send them through but their hope lasted just 150 seconds as Kalidou Koulibaly restored Senegal’s lead.
Ecuador could not muster another big chance and it ended 1-2 after six nerve-racking minutes of stoppage-time.
It’s all looking much clearer in Group A which was resolved after Tuesday’s matches, the third and final games in the group.
As winners of Group A, the Netherlands will face the runners-up of Group B (England, Iran, USMNT or Wales) at Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday 3 December. Senegal meanwhile will face the winners of Group B the following day, Sunday 4 December, at Al Bayt Stadium.
The last Ecuador attack breaks down and Senegal win a free kick.
Jeremy Sarmiento whips a ball in, flicked on and nearly falls to Reyna at the back post.
He can't reach it and goes behind for a goal kick. Game over?
Edouard Mendy pushes the corner over the bar to force another corner
Corner for Ecuador...
Six minutes of extra time for Ecuador to stay in the World Cup.
Despite needing a goal Ecuador have created little in the last 5 minutes and it's Senegal who continue to look the most dangerous. The Senegal wingers have been so dangerous today.
Boulaye Dia spins the full back before fizzing a powerful strike wide of the near post
With 15 minutes to go Ecuador are going to have to throw everything forward.
Sarmiento has been electric since he came on. The ball makes it ways to Gonzalo Plata in the box who flicks it over the defender before firing a shot straight at Mendy. That was a big chance.
There was just two and a half minutes between those two goals.
Ecuador 1 - 2 SENEGAL
First attack after the goal and Senegal are ahead again!
A freekick is whipped in and not dealt with, falling to Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly who shoots in on the half-volley.
As you were.
ECUADOR 1 - 1 Senegal
Just as I say that an Ecuador corner is turned in by Moises Caicedo.
Koulibaly was just standing on the line throughout the whole corner. If he had stepped out it would have been offside.
Senegal have been keeping Ecuador quiet this half.
Another effort for Ecuador this time comes from a head after Sarmiento works some space with some neat dribbling.
They're having the better chances this half.
Ecuador has crafted their first chance of the have with Angelo Preciado crossing the ball low but it is easily cleared.
Senegal look like they are going to sit deep and try to hold on to this lead.
de Jong makes it two for the Netherlands against Qatar
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has scored to effectively send the Netherlands to the next round.
If both games stay how they are then Netherlands will finish top with Senegal second.
Second half begins
Can Ecuador hit back?
Statisitcs at half-time
As mentioned during the feed Ecuador have been edging possession but have created very little.
A big half needed for the boys in yellow.
Half-time: Ecuador 0 - 1 Senegal
Ismaila Sarr's goal the difference at half-time.
If it stays like this Senegal are going through at the sake of Ecuador.
Netherlands are still leading Qatar 1-0 in the other Group A game.
Really embarrassing moment for Enner Valencia as he gets into an argy bargy with Sabaly. Sabaly touches Valencia's leg who throws himself to the floor.
Thanksfully referee Clement Turpin does nothing about it.
Senegal keep up the pressure winning another corner.
Ecuador are going to have to start trying to attack this half. Despite some possession they have created very little.
Ecuador 0 - 1 SENEGAL
Ismaila Sarr passes the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. Galindez didn't even move.
Perfect penalty and just want Senegal would want as we approach half-time.
Angelo Preciado misjudges his header playing Ismaila Sarr through. The Watford winger touches the ball past Piero Reyna who clumsily crashes into him.
VAR won't overturn this.
Moises Caicedo was fairly chopped down near the halfway line, spinning around on the floor as Senegal break.
They create probably their best chance of the half working it into the box but Dia is crowded out and the shot is smothered by Hernan Galíndez.
Ecuador have begun to play themselves into this half, taking more of the possession and restricting Senegal to half-chances.
Saying that Estupinan clatters Pathé Ciss to give away a free-kick on the halfway line which is headed over.
Netherlands one goal to the good against Qatar
Cody Gakpo joins an illustrious list of players as he has scored in three successive World Cup games.
What that means for this game is that it is even more unlikely that Qatar will beat the Netherlands, meaning Senegal must win this game to progress.
Sarr puts in a good cross from the left again but Boulaye Dia can't get enough on it to make it a proper chance.
Some news coming in from the othre game in Group A...
Ismaila Sarr outmuscles Preciado in what looks like will be the deciding battle of the match.
He works some space for a curling right-foot shot but the ball is deflected behind for a corner.
Galindez comfortably punches the corner again.
Ecuador's Angelo Preciado has been down for the last three minutes. Not totally clear what he has injured, whether it was from the landing or the contact as he was fouled.
He jogs back on to the pitch.
Ismaila Sarr picks up the game's first yellow card for the tackle.
Idrissa Gueye chases down a ball which looks well beyond him but manages to knock it against the Ecuador full-back, winning a corner.
Galindez forcefully punches the ball away.
A cross from Pape Gueye is gobbled up by Ecuador stopper Galindez.
With star man Sadio Mané missing they are missing a bit of attacking bite.
Senegal have created another good chance as Boulaye Dia shoots wide again from close range.
The African side will be hoping to put some of these away.
First chance for Senegal as Idrissa Gueye gets his shot all wrong, firing wide after a good pass to him.
The game is underway
Crucial game for both Ecuador and Senegal begins with that last-16 spot up for grabs.
Moments away from kick-off
Ecuador's anthem the first to be played and quickly followed by Senegal.
Overseeing the action at Khalifa International Stadium will be French referee Clément Turpin and his team. He will be accompanied by his compatriots - assistant referees Nicolas Danos and Cyril Gringore while Romanian Istvan Kovacs has been designated as the fourth official.
During his 12 years as an international referee, he has been selected for a number of major club tournaments including the Europa League (2010–11), Champions League (2014-15 to present) and Club World Cup (2021-22). He was in charge of last season’s Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid in Paris - one of 40 appearances in the competition.
Senegal fans are arriving to the stadium
Senegal go into the game knowing that they will almost certainly have to win if they are to finish in the top two. With that in mind, they will have to attack an Ecuador defence that has been extremely resolute of late, with the goal they let in against the Netherlands ending a run of six games without conceding.
Will we see these fellas in the stands for the match today?
Senegal have become well known for bringing the atmosphere to their games so far in the tournament.

Enner Valencia starts for Ecuador
One of the key questions surrounding the match was around the fitness of Ecuador captain Enner Valencia, who has scored all three of his nation’s goals at this tournament.
Valencia was substituted late on in both games because of a knee issue and had been a major doubt to face Senegal.
