Egypt starting lineup vs Argentina: Hossam Hassan’s XI for the round of 16 game
The Pharaohs came through the group stage despite injuries to three key stars. There was good news for coach Hossam Hassan in Monday’s session.

Egypt have had a few days to recover from Friday’s victory over Australia - a game that went to extra-time then penalties. Hossam Hassan’s men will be grateful of that rest as they gear up to meet the defending champions Argentina in the Round of 16 this afternoon.
The Pharaohs have already shown that they are more than capable of standing up to the big boys at this World Cup. They held Belgium to a 1-1 draw in their opening game and are one of the seven teams who remain unbeaten since the tournament started.
That’s even more impressive when you consider the injury problems they have had to deal with. Center-back Mohamed Abdelmonem was the first casualty to limp out of the final group stage game against Iran. He was followed by Mohamed Salah and left-back Ahmed Fattouh.

Abdelmonem is believed to have suffered bruising to his ankle and was ruled out for the Round of 32 tie against Australia. Fattouh‘s World Cup is over after he was diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate ligament.
Salah managed to shake off a hamstring sprain and completed the Australia match. He was all smiles in in images from Monday’s training session in Atlanta. Karim Hafez was also seen during the team’s workout - he quit the Round of 32 game on 80 minutes with a minor muscular sprain but appears to have made a full recovery.
Elsewhere, midfielder Mohanad Lasheen is available again after serving a one-match suspension. Only one player, center-back Yasser Ibrahim goes into the Argentina game one booking away from being hit with a ban.
