Current Palmeiras and future Real Madrid winger, Endrick, has spoken in public about his recent run of form in Brazil, where he has struggled to make an impact on the pitch.

Palmeiras played out a drab 0-0 in the return leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter final against Deportivo Pereira, after thrashing the side by four goals in the first leg.

Manager Abel Ferreira tried a new system with three central defenders after the injury to key attacker, Dudu. The new formation benefitted Endrick, who finally went back into the side after two games on the bench. The Brazilian came onto the pitch in the 62nd minute of the game.

Endrick: ‘I don’t have time to complain’

The future Madrid winger was very active during his short time on the pitch, entering 13 times into the box but only having one shot on goal. After the final whistle, Endrick broke his silence on his current form, saying “it’s in God’s hands. I don’t have time to complain about my life, I’m just grateful for the time I have on Earth. I do what I enjoy, which is playing football. I’m training, looking for my space [in the team]. I am a bit sad not to be playing but I have to control that”.

Endrick also took the opportunity to leave a message with the media: “I just want to thank God because it is he who is with me every day, every night. If I could, I would ask the press not to talk, but it’s what us players have to experience. Life outside is crucifying. I am going to keep on training and playing. You can get angry with me but I’m going to speak about God, I’m going to show his message to the whole world.”

Endrick is set to join Real Madrid in 2024.

‘When he goes to Madrid he will start from zero’

Abel Ferreira also spoke about the situation of the Brazilian: “We all have moments of great inspiration in life and others in which we need to fight against frustration. Everything I do here is to make him work because when he goes to the other side everything will start from zero. He can score 20 goals here or he can not play another game; when he goes to Madrid he will start from zero.”

The 17-year-old is currently in the latter description of form mentioned by Ferreira: he has not scored since July and his number of minutes has been reduced drastically. However, Palmeiras have a lot of games ahead and there is still time for Endrick to finish the season as an important player who could have a role to play in the fight for the Copa Libertadores.
