Erik ten Hag to hold talks with Cristiano Ronaldo
Ten Hag will meet with Ronaldo, who is in contention once again after being left out against Tottenham.
Erik ten Hag and Cristiano Ronaldo are set for further talks. The Manchester United manager had a face-to-face meeting with the Portuguese forward in July after he missed the club’s pre-season tour.
As Ten Hag confirmed in his press conference before the draw with Chelsea, Ronaldo refused to play against Tottenham Hotspur and left Old Trafford before the end of the game. “It’s not the first time and there had to be consequences,” the Dutchman explained, referring to the friendly match against Rayo Vallecano at the end of July, in which the veteran forward also failed to wait for the final whistle.
Unlike against Rayo, where Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford only received a warning from Ten Hag, the 37-year-old was left out of the first team until further notice after the game with Spurs. “It will be a time of reflection for him,” said the Dutch coach.
Ten Hag wants Ronaldo in squad
The relationship between Ten Hag and Cristiano is expected to reach a new turning point on Tuesday when the pair meet again (training is scheduled for 12.00 GMT). As The Times reports, the United coach hopes to improve the striker’s current situation and try to convince him that he is an important part of the team for the remainder of the campaign despite spending time on the bench.
United take on Sheriff
Ahead of the World Cup in Qatar next month, the Portuguese star will want to continue playing and he could even start this Thursday’s Europa League match against Sheriff.
