Erling Haaland breaks Premier League scoring record with seven games remaining
The Norwegian has been unstoppable since making the switch to Manchester City and he has already broken some long-standing records.
Another day, another record for Erling Haaland. The Norwegian added to his tally with a coolly taken goal in the final moments of Manchester City’s 4-1 win over title rivals Arsenal, taking him to another goal-scoring milestone.
Haaland’s late strike was his 33rd league goal in his debut season in England, breaking the record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League season. The previous record holder was Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah, who scored 32 in 2017/18.
The all-time Premier League record is 34 goals but that was set when a season comprised of 42 matches. Andrew Cole (1993/94) and Alan Shearer (1994/95) each scored 34 goals in a season in the early 1990s.
Haaland needs just two more goals in the remaining seven league games to break the all-time Premier League record.
Haaland stars in Europe
Manchester City dismantled Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night to put themselves in pole position for another Premier League title. If Pep Guardiola’s side win the league again this year it will be their third triumph in a row and fifth in six seasons.
But for all their domestic dominance Manchester City have not made the final step in the Champions League. Haaland has broken records in the league but it is in Europe that City fans will be hoping that the striker can be the real difference maker.
The Norwegian has been in fine form in the Champions League this season. His 12 goals in eight appearance make him the competition’s top scorer and he was on the scoresheet in both legs against Bayern Munich.
Haaland has hit 35 goals in 27 Champions League appearances across four seasons. This incredible goal-scoring rate puts him 19th in the list of all-time Champions League scorers, ahead of the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Wayne Rooney.
