Fernando Ortiz gave his perspective on Rayados’ recent run of form and insists the panorama is not at gloomy as it might seem - just that the results haven’t been going their way.

The mid-week 1-1 draw with Puebla leaves Monterrey 10th in the table with 14 points - 10 points behind leaders América although having played two games less. Tano says there is no reason why they should give up and is confident that results will soon come.

“I work every day so that we can reflect what I have been saying right from the beginning,” Ortiz began. “We are in the middle of the tournament with games on hand and we will continue to insist on what I believe. I repeat, I want us to improve, to correct what we have been doing wrong. But the results we have been getting are not satisfactory and do not reflect what happened out on the pitch. We insisted the entire game but it’s just not happening for us right now. That’s the truth. They scored with their first attack... that makes us even more angry, particularly that things are not going our way, but I am very confident that the results will come”.

The coach also spoke about other issues concerning his team:

Sergio Canales

We already know everything that happened with Sergio. Myself and all of the coaching staff care about all of our players. Obviously, he is important to the team and the best decision will be made for him, and for the club. Whoever comes in to replace him will do the best they possible can”.

Rogelio Funes Mori response

“Rogelio is working hard every day to be able to play, although we have had difficulties in that position. He has the confidence and the possibility to show that he is Monterrey’s No. 9. He has done well”

Bringing Jesús Gallardo on for Jordi Cortizo

“It’s about variants… I look for variants. That’s the reason. We thought that playing Jesús wide would be the solution to opening up the defence when they had a lot of players behind the ball. Jordi had an excellent match, but we were looking for an alternative, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t”.
