Tigres have officially announced the departure of winger Florian Thauvin. Following the arrival of Argentinian striker Nicolás Ibáñez, Los Auriazules were forced to move on one of the foreign players already at the club due to Liga MX regulations; the French 2018 World Cup winner is that man. In recent weeks, there had been speculation that Uruguayan Nicolás López could be the player on the way out the door but the board have instead opted to terminat Thauvin’s contract, which had been due to run until 2026.

Thauvin arrived in San Nicolás de los Garza in May 2021 as one of Tigres’ star signings for the Apertura 2021. The former Newcastle United attacker was part of the France squad that won the World Cup in Russia in 2018 although he played just one minute in the tournament, against Argentina in the round of 16.

Like compatriot André-Pierre Gignac, who has been a huge success at Tigres, Thauvin joined the club from Olympique de Marseille, for whom he made 281 appearances in all competitions, scoring 86 goals and providing 61 assists. Unfortunately for everyone involved with Los Auriazules, he was unable to recapture that form in Mexico.

How many matches did Florian Thauvin play for Tigres? How many goals did he score?

In his time at the club, Thauvin played a total of 2063 minutes across 38 matches, far fewer than was expected of him. He scored eight times and provided five assists.
