The situation in Tottenham grows more dire by the week as their Premier League winless skid has yet to come to an end. Relegation becomes a real possibility with each passing game, and Tottenham might lose a chance to sign a highly sought after manager should they drop to the Championship.

De Zerbi interested, but salvation a must

The Telegraph reports that Spurs have already been in contact with Roberto De Zerbi, who is apparently open to taking the job. There is however one thing that could keep the two parties from agreeing to a deal. The condition: Tottenham have to stay in the Premier League.

Currently, Spurs sit in 17th place after the crushing defeat to Nottingham Forest over the weekend. They head into the international break just one point over West Ham who is in the relegation zone with Burnley and Wolves sitting below the Hammers. With seven matches remaining, there are plenty of people wondering if Tottenham make an emergency swap before the final match of the season.

Igor Tudor was named the interim manager after replacing Thomas Frank in February, but things seem to have only gotten worse for the North London club. In eight matches, Tudor’s Tottenham has lost six, drawn one and won one match. The one match was a meaningless 3-2 win over Atletico de Madrid in the second leg of an already settled round of 16 match.

Return to Premier League for De Zerbi?

De Zerbi spent time on the south shore of England from 2022 to 2024. Brighton came calling after a successful stint at Shaktar Donetsk, and after two years in the Premier League, one of France’s biggest clubs brought him aboard. In 89 matches with Brighton, he won 38 matches, drew 22 and lost 29.

Marseille agreed to terms with the Italian manager in 2024 after cementing his attacking style of play at Brighton. He led Marseille to a second placed finish last season, but far cry from challenging PSG who won the title with a 19 point advantage.

Things didn’t go as well in his second season at the Stade Velodrome. Marseille were knocked out of the Champions League after the league phase, losing to Club Brugge 3-0 on the final matchday. Just days after PSG beat Marseille 5-0 and De Zerbi and the club agreed to mutually part ways in February. His next destination could be Tottenham, but Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly interested in the Italian’s services.
