Gavi commits to Barcelona with new deal: “My lifelong club”

Deco’s plan is moving forward. After Barcelona officially extended Pedri’s contract until 2030 on Thursday, the club has now done the same with Pablo Martín Páez Gaviria, AKA Gavi.

The Andalusian midfielder, who agreed to the renewal with the club last week, signed the contract alongside President Joan Laporta under the same terms as his teammate. The contract has been extended by four years until 2030, with no details disclosed about the release clause, following the new policy adopted by the club, which was first implemented last week with Ronald Araújo’s new deal.

What were the terms of Gavi’s previous contract?

Gavi’s old contract was set to expire on June 30, 2026, but with this renewal, Barcelona has secured the core of their midfield for the next five seasons.

Gavi joined Barcelona’s first team in 2021 under the management of Ronald Koeman. His emergence, much like Pedri’s, brought a breath of fresh air to a team that was going through a rough patch.

Gavi’s progress was halted last season by a severe knee injury he sustained while on duty with Spain’s national team, which sidelined him for eleven months. Through methodical work and constant attention from Barcelona’s medical and recovery teams, he began reintegrating into the squad last October. He ultimately became a crucial player in their victory over Real Madrid in the recent Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, just as he had done two years earlier in the same venue against the same rival.
