Giannis Antetokounmpo secures a stake with MLS team Nashville SC
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers are the latest high profile sports personalities to acquire a stake with an MLS team.
After hitting the headlines recently through their Johnny Cash ‘Man in Black’ away shirt for the 2023 MLS season, Nashville SC are back in the news again after it was confirmed that Greek basketball star Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers have become stakeholders in the club.
NHL star Filip Forsberg and the four Antetokounmpo’s brother: Giannis, his Milwaukee teammate, Thanasis; Kostas, who plays basketball in Turkey; and G-League player Alex are part of the consortium who have joined the team’s ownership group.
In a statement, Giannis confirmed his excitement to come on board with the team, who finished fifth in the Western Conference last season before a first-round playoff exit to LA Galaxy in the MLS Cup with the franchise only part of MLS since 2020.
“My father was a soccer player, and it was the first sport I fell in love with in Greece,” he told ESPN.
“I’ve always had the dream of owning a soccer team. When my brothers and I explored Nashville SC, we knew it was a team and a city that we wanted to get involved with. I couldn’t be more excited to join the Boys in Gold, and can’t wait to come to a match at GEODIS Park soon.”
The Antetokounmpo brothers and Forsberg join previous high-profile investors in Nashville SC, including actress Reese Witherspoon and Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry.
