Greg Vanney: “Gerardo Martino will be accountable and responsible for his decisions”

The head coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy gave his opinion about Martino confirming that Chicharito will not receive a call up to the Mexico national team.

Javier Chicharito Hernández is in top form this year with the LA Galaxy and has scored five goals in the first six games of the MLS regular season. The 33-year-old has led the team with the most league titles to second place in the Western Conference with a record of four wins, one draw and one defeat.

Chicharito’s numbers are not good enough for the coach of the Mexican national team, Gerardo Martino, who said on Tuesday that the striker will not receive a call up as long as he is in charge. This means that Hernández will not play in the upcoming friendlies or be included in the final roster that will participate in the FIFA World Cup in November.

Hernández would love to return to the national team

Prior to traveling to Chicago to face the Fire, Greg Vanney, the coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy, talked about Martino’s decision to exclude Chicharito from future call ups to El Tri. “I think these are decisions that are in the hands of the Mexican federation and Martino has to choose his team and his lineup,” Vanney said.

“I know that is a desire and a passion for Chicharito [ but his job is to keep scoring goals and perform to the highest level. it is an opportunity, if he sees him as the right option, to bring him in and put Chicharito in a position to play in the Mexican national team.

“I know that is a desire and a passion for Chicharito but his job is to keep scoring goals and perform to the highest level. In the end it is Mexico’s coach and the federation’s job to choose the team that will help them win and ultimately they are accountable for their decisions.”
