Haaland eyes another step toward history as Norway close in on World Cup knockout stage
Norway’s long-awaited return to the World Cup has already delivered one statement performance, but a tougher test now awaits.

Erling Haaland has won almost everything. League titles, domestic cups, the Champions League and Golden Boots already fill his trophy cabinet. At club level, the Manchester City striker has built a remarkable career. Now, with Norway back at the World Cup for the first time in 28 years, he is chasing success on a different stage.
The tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada began perfectly for the Scandinavian side. Haaland announced his arrival with a trademark brace in Norway’s 4-1 victory over Iraq, delivering the sort of ruthless finishing that has defined his career.
The 25-year-old now has another opportunity to lead his country when Norway faces Senegal in its second group-stage game. A victory would leave the Norwegians with one foot firmly in the Round of 32 and moving ever closer to matching their best World Cup performances, having previously reached the knockout rounds in 1938 and 1998.

For a nation of just over five million people, the dream is growing with every game. Norway’s return to soccer’s biggest tournament has reignited national excitement, and even a draw against Senegal would leave Solbakken’s team in a strong position to advance.
Haaland will not have to carry the burden alone. Martin Ødegaard and Alexander Sørloth, both familiar faces to La Liga fans, are expected to feature prominently in the lineup. Their experience and attacking quality have given Norway a balance that has often been missing during previous qualification campaigns.
The circumstances also add pressure on Senegal. The Lions of Teranga arrive needing a result after opening their campaign with a defeat to France. That urgency could create opportunities for Norway and for Haaland, whose ability to exploit space and punish defensive mistakes makes him one of the most feared forwards in the tournament.
With momentum on their side and qualification within reach, Norway heads into the clash believing its long World Cup absence could be followed by a memorable run.
