Olise and Mbappé: France’s devastating partnership is becoming the World Cup’s defining force
One creates, the other finishes, as France’s newest attacking connection continues to flourish on the biggest stage.

Michael Olise has won over France and the wider soccer world. Many expected him to emerge as a direct rival to Kylian Mbappé for the spotlight, but instead the two have developed a partnership that has become one of the most dangerous at this World Cup. One creates, the other finishes. Together, they offer the perfect blend of natural talent and clinical execution. Iraq, the most manageable opponent in France’s group, faces a daunting challenge ahead.
France now boasts two gifted attackers who constantly find and understand each other on the field. Not long ago, that chemistry seemed unlikely. What once looked like an impossible combination has quickly become a genuine strength for a team with ambitions of capturing a third World Cup title.

Senegal was the first victim of the emerging French duo. Their connection produced the opening goal of the night, as Olise threaded a pass through the defense and Mbappé finished first time. It is rapidly becoming their trademark move and perhaps the most productive attacking pattern in Didier Deschamps’ side.
Olise’s influence continues to grow
The London-born playmaker fits almost any role. Operating out wide, he was relatively quiet early on, but after moving centrally and getting closer to the ball in the second half, he transformed the game. He has now been directly or indirectly involved in 12 goals across 18 appearances, underlining his growing importance to the French attack.
For Mbappé, Olise represents the type of creative profile he appeared to lack during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Now, the French captain is benefiting from it more than ever.
Their connection extends beyond the field as well, where they share several interests away from soccer. It is uncommon to see two elite attacking talents complement each other so naturally. Olise has brought a fresh dimension to the national team.
His personality could hardly be more different from Mbappé’s. While the Bondy-born superstar thrives under the spotlight, Olise remains an outsider in a world dominated by headlines, magazine covers and constant attention.Media exposure and celebrity culture hold little appeal for him.

Mbappé keeps rewriting French history
Mbappé’s pursuit of history with France continues. Against Senegal, he broke two major records, becoming the nation’s all-time leading scorer with 58 goals, surpassing Olivier Giroud, and France’s leading World Cup scorer with 14 goals, moving ahead of Just Fontaine.
At 27, he is already setting his sights on even greater milestones. His long-term objective is to challenge Lionel Messi and Miroslav Klose atop the World Cup’s all-time scoring charts. With at least one more tournament likely ahead of him, time remains firmly on his side.
The French captain continues to add remarkable achievements to an already extraordinary international career. In addition to becoming the youngest World Cup-winning player in French history at 19, he is also the country’s all-time leading assist provider with 34.
Olise, albeit on a different trajectory, appears capable of building a similarly impressive legacy. It is no surprise that Real Madrid is reportedly monitoring him closely, hoping to replicate some of France’s attacking magic at the Santiago Bernabéu.
What began against Senegal looks increasingly like the start of a partnership destined for bigger stages. They trust each other, understand each other and, perhaps most importantly, bring out the best in one another.
