Guardiola to leave City in 2025!
Local English outlets claim that the Spanish coach has decided to leave Manchester City at the end of next season, when his contract expires.
After Manchester City secured their fourth consecutive Premier League trophy last week, the Daily Mail claim that Guardiola will leave Manchester City at the end of next season (24-25).
Despite efforts from the Premier League club to extend the Catalan coach’s deal with the club, the breaking news from the Mail points to an Etihad Stadium exit for the 53-year-old.
Pep Guardiola arrived in Manchester in 2016 and, since then, has won everything with the ‘Cityzens’ with the assistance of the deep pockets of the UAE based owners. The climax for the club was undoubtedly the historic treble achieved last year, with Guardiola steering City to the first Champions League triumph in the club’s history with the club breaking a new Premier League record this season by winning a fourth consecutive Premier League, a milestone never before seen in the history of English football.
In recent interviews, Guardiola himself did allude to a City exit as he confessed to Sky Sports stating: “The reality is that I am closer to leaving than staying. I already spoke with the club and told them that for now I want to stay. I will be here next season, then we will talk, but I have been here for eight or nine years… We will see.” The still Manchester City coach, aware of his contractual situation, left the door ajar.
The Mail claim that the quest for City to find a successor has already with current Girona boss Míchel a leading candidate with the LaLiga club forming part of the City Football Group. Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso are other names already being linked with the role with Guardiola and ardent admirer of Roberto De Zerbi with the Italian who recently left Brighton being one of the key candidates to succeed Mauricio Pochettino on the Chelsea bench.
Even so, the Mail add that “Manchester City will give the coach (Pep Guardiola) space to make a final decision, but the club’s hierarchy fears that Pep Guardiola’s ninth season in the club will be the last at Manchester City.”
