Guillermo Ochoa opens up about his future — and the only Liga MX club he’d return to
The Mexican goalkeeper, who currently plays for AEL Limassol in the Cypriot League, spoke about his possible return to play in Liga MX.

The Liga MX regular season wrapped up this weekend, and before Mexico’s national‑team call‑ups report for duty, veteran goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa spoke candidly about what comes next for him.
In an exclusive interview with TUDN, the AEL Limassol keeper made it clear he’s not ruling out a return to Liga MX — but if he does come back, there’s only one club he’d consider.

Ochoa told Mauricio Ymay that he had multiple opportunities to return to Mexico before signing in Cyprus, but he turned every one of them down.
“América is my heart. América is my home,” Ochoa said. “It’s the club that opened its doors to me, that shaped me as a player and forged my character. There were chances to return to Mexico, and I never considered them. In Mexico, I can only play for Club América. I don’t see myself wearing another jersey.”

A free agent after Cyprus
Once his season with AEL Limassol ends — and after the World Cup — Ochoa is expected to become a free agent. At 40 years old (41 by the end of the tournament), he faces a crossroads: return to Liga MX or retire after an extraordinary run that includes six World Cups.
Ochoa last played for América from 2019 to 2022 before heading back to Europe, where he suited up for Salernitana in Serie A, AVS in Portugal, and now AEL Limassol.
Reporting early to El Tri
Ochoa will be among the first foreign‑based players to report to Javier Aguirre’s Mexican national team camp, as preparations begin for the upcoming international window.
